Privacy Policy

Status: draft for closed TestFlight beta testing only. This has not had a legal review and is not the final policy — a complete version will be published before Jia is publicly available, alongside the document repository and other features that are currently on hold pending that review (see the product roadmap). It's accurate to how the app works today, written so beta testers know what's collected and why.

This policy covers the Jia mobile app, currently in closed beta testing via TestFlight. Jia is a shared organiser for one household — a calendar, group chat, to-do list, and shopping list — built for family units, not the general public, during this testing period.

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address (or, if you use Sign in with Apple, whatever Apple shares — your name and email, or a private relay email if you choose to hide it) and a display name you choose. We also record your confirmation that you're 13 years of age or older, with a timestamp.

Content you and your family create. Calendar events, chat messages, to-do items, and shopping list items you and other members of your family unit add to Jia. This content is only visible to members of your family unit.

Calendar data from connected accounts (optional). If you choose to connect an external calendar (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook), we read event data from it — read-only, we never modify your calendar at the source — so it can be shown to your family. You control how much detail is shared: full details, just busy/free times, or nothing automatically. Disconnecting a calendar stops this at any time.

Device and notification information. To deliver push notifications, we store a device token (provided by Apple's push notification service via Expo, the service we use to send notifications) and basic device information (platform, last-active time) so you can see and revoke your signed-in devices.

What we don't collect. Jia does not access your photos, contacts, location, browsing history, or microphone/camera. There is no file or photo upload feature in the app at this time.

Solely to provide Jia's features to your family unit: showing your shared calendar, chat, to-dos, and shopping list; sending push notifications about activity you haven't muted; and letting you manage your account and devices. We do not use your data for anything else, and we do not sell your data.

• Supabase (our database and backend provider) stores your account and family unit data, hosted in Australia (Sydney).
• Apple, Google, and Microsoft are contacted only if you choose to connect a calendar from that provider, or if you sign in with Apple — solely to read calendar data or authenticate you.
• Expo delivers push notifications on our behalf (via Apple's push notification service).
• Advertising. Jia does not currently show ads. If we introduce ads in a future update (planned to be non-personalised, via Google AdMob), the ad network will never receive event titles, message content, to-do or shopping items, member names, or any other family content — only what's needed to display a generic ad.

We do not share your data with any other third party, and we never sell it.

All data is stored in Australia. Chat messages are retained for the life of your family unit — leaving a unit or deleting your account does not remove messages you've sent, though your name is removed from them. Other content (calendar events, to-dos, shopping items, your account) is deleted when you delete your account, per the in-app account deletion flow.

Jia requires everyone to confirm they are 13 or older when signing up. If you believe a child under 13 is using Jia, you can report it from the sign-in screen without needing an account yourself, and we will investigate and remove the account.

You can review and revoke your signed-in devices, change your calendar sharing settings, mute notifications per family unit, and delete your account at any time from within the app.

Since this is a beta-testing draft, this policy may change as Jia's features change. We'll update the "last updated" date above when it does.
