1. Open Jia and tap Sign Up.
2. Choose how you'd like to sign in: Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or Email and password.
3. Confirm you're 13 years old or over.
4. Read and accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
5. If you signed up with Apple's "Hide My Email" option, type in your name when asked — Apple only shares this once, so Jia asks directly.

You're now signed in. From here you can either create your own family unit or join one with an invite code — or just explore the app and do this later.

1. Go to Account Settings.
2. Tap Sign Out.

Useful if your phone was lost, stolen, or shared with someone else.

1. Go to Account Settings.
2. Tap Signed-in Devices.
3. Find the device you want to remove and tap Revoke. That device is signed out immediately.

A family unit is where everything happens in Jia — your shared calendar, chat, to-do list, and shopping list all belong to a unit. You can belong to more than one unit at once (for example, your own household and the family you grew up in), and each one is kept completely separate.

1. From the home screen, tap Create a Family Unit.
2. Enter a name for the unit (up to 60 characters), e.g. "Ho Family."
3. Optionally, add a description (up to 280 characters).
4. Tap Create.

You're automatically set as the owner of this unit.

1. From the home screen, tap Join a Family Unit.
2. Enter the invite code you were given.
3. Tap Join.

If the code doesn't work, Jia will tell you exactly why (invalid, already used, expired, or revoked) rather than a generic error.

Note: only unit owners can generate invite codes. If you're a member, you won't see an option to invite people — that's expected.

1. Open your family unit and go to Family Unit Settings.
2. Tap Invite Member.
3. Share the generated code with that person however you like (text, call, in person).

Each code works once only and is consumed as soon as it's used.

1. From the home screen, tap the unit switcher (shows your current unit's name).
2. Select the unit you want to view.

Everything — calendar, chat, to-dos, shopping list — switches together. Nothing carries over between units, including your personal calendar-sharing settings.

1. Open the unit you want as your default.
2. Go to Unit Settings.
3. Tap Set as Default Unit.

Jia will now open straight to this unit each time you launch the app.

1. Open the unit you want to leave.
2. Go to Unit Settings.
3. Tap Leave Unit.
4. Confirm.

If you're the unit's owner, you'll need to transfer ownership to another member first (see below) — an owner can't leave while still the only owner.

1. Open Unit Settings.
2. Tap Members.
3. Select the member you want to remove.
4. Tap Remove from Unit.

1. Open Unit Settings.
2. Tap Transfer Ownership.
3. Choose the member who will become the new owner.
4. Confirm.

You'll become a regular member of the unit once the transfer is complete.

1. Open Unit Settings.
2. Tap Edit Unit Details.
3. Update the name and/or description.
4. Tap Save.

This permanently deletes the unit's shared calendar events, chat, to-dos, and shopping list for every member. It does notdelete anything from an individual member's own personal calendar.

1. Open Unit Settings.
2. Tap Delete Unit.
3. Type the confirmation text when prompted.
4. Tap Delete.

This can't be undone.

Each family unit has one shared calendar, visible only to that unit's members. There are two different kinds of events on it, and it's worth understanding the difference:

• In-app events — created directly in Jia. Any member can create, edit, or delete these.
• Synced events — pulled in from someone's personal Apple, Google, or Outlook calendar. Only that person can edit or delete them, and only from their own calendar app. Jia never writes changes back to anyone's personal calendar.

Synced events look visually different from in-app events, so you can tell at a glance which kind you're looking at before trying to edit it.

1. Open the Calendar tab.
2. Tap + Add Event.
3. Enter the event title, date, time, and (optionally) location or notes.
4. To make it repeat, tap Repeat and choose daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or yearly, then set an end date or number of occurrences.
5. Tap Save.

Any member of the unit can edit or delete this event afterwards.

1. Tap the event on the calendar.
2. Tap Edit to change details, or Delete to remove it.
3. If it's a recurring event, choose whether the change applies to just this occurrence or the whole series.

1. Go to Calendar Settings (or your profile) and tap Connect a Calendar.
2. Choose Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Microsoft Outlook.
3. Sign in if prompted (Google/Outlook), or grant access (Apple, via your device).
4. Select which of your individual calendars to include (e.g. "Work," "Personal") — your primary calendar is preselected. You can change this later.
5. Tap Done.

You choose this separately for each family unit — so you can share full detail with your own household while sharing only busy times with your parents' unit, for example.

1. Go to Calendar Settings > your connected calendar.
2. Select the family unit you want to set this for.
3. Choose a sharing mode:
   • Full detail — title, time, location, and notes are all visible to the unit.
   • Busy only — the unit only sees a time block with your name attached; no other details are ever stored against the unit.
   • Manual — nothing shares automatically. You choose individual events to push across, and pick full detail, title-only, or busy-only for each one. (This is the default for newly connected calendars.)

           4. Tap Save.

You can override this for any single event regardless of your general setting — for example, pushing one private event as busy-only while otherwise sharing in full.

1. Go to Calendar Settings.
2. Select the calendar.
3. Tap Change Sharing Mode to update it, or Disconnect to remove it entirely.

Disconnecting immediately removes every event that connection had shared into the unit.

This creates a private feed of busy times from your Jia unit inside your own Apple/Google/Outlook calendar app — handy for avoiding double-bookings without opening Jia.

1. Go to Calendar Settings.
2. Tap Subscribe to Family Calendar.
3. Copy the generated link, or tap Add to Calendar App if offered.
4. Add it to your calendar app as a subscribed calendar (steps vary slightly by app).

Good to know:

• This feed is always busy-only — no titles, locations, or names, no matter what sharing modes are set inside Jia.
• Your calendar app refreshes the feed on its own schedule (often a few hours apart) — it's for planning, not a live view.
• The feed stops working automatically if you leave or are removed from the unit.

If you think your link has been shared somewhere it shouldn't have (e.g. forwarded through a work calendar system):

1. Go to Calendar Settings > Subscribe to Family Calendar.
2. Tap Regenerate Link.
3. Update the link in your calendar app with the new one.

The old link stops working immediately.

• Day view and month view are both available from the view switcher at the top of the Calendar tab.
• Week view isn't available at the moment.
• On a busy day, day view shows overlapping events side-by-side; month view groups extra events into a "+N more" count you can tap to expand.

Each family unit has one shared group chat for all its members — there's no private messaging between individual members.

1. Open the Chat tab.
2. Type your message.
3. Tap Send.

Everyone in the unit sees it in near real time, along with who sent it and when.

1. Press and hold your message.
2. Tap Delete.

Your message is replaced with a "message removed" placeholder — it doesn't disappear without a trace, since chat is a shared family record.

You'll see the entire chat history from before you joined — this is shown clearly on the join screen, since chat history is part of the unit's shared record, not a private thread.

You can still read recent chat history without an internet connection. If you send a message while offline, it shows "Sending…" and goes through automatically once you're back online.

Each family unit has one shared to-do list.

1. Open the To-Dos tab.
2. Tap + Add To-Do.
3. Enter a title, and optionally notes and a due date.
4. To assign it, tap Assign To and select one member of the unit (or leave it unassigned).
5. Tap Save.

A to-do with a due date will also show as a small marker on the shared calendar (it isn't a calendar event, and can't be edited from the calendar).

1. Tap the to-do.
2. Tap Mark Complete.

Any member can mark any to-do complete — not just the person it's assigned to. It records who completed it and moves to a "Completed" section. Tap it again to reopen it if needed.

Only the person who created the to-do, its assignee, or a unit owner can edit or delete it.

1. Tap the to-do.
2. Tap Edit to make changes, or Delete to remove it.

Each family unit has one shared shopping list, designed for quick, casual use — anyone can add, tick off, or edit any item.

1. Open the Shopping List tab.
2. Tap + Add Item.
3. Type the item name, and optionally a quantity and note.
4. Tap Add.

1. Tap the checkbox next to the item.

Ticked items move to a separate "Ticked" section rather than disappearing, so the list stays usable mid-shop. Tap the checkbox again to untick it if needed.

Any member can edit or delete any item on the list.

1. Tap the item.
2. Tap Edit to change it, or Delete to remove it.

Ticked items clear automatically 24 hours after being ticked, or you can clear them manually:

1. Open the Shopping List tab.
2. Tap Clear Ticked Items.
3. Confirm — this can't be undone.

You can add and tick off items with no signal (handy in a supermarket with poor reception) — changes sync automatically once you're reconnected, and two people's changes at the same time will merge rather than overwrite each other.

Jia sends a push notification when:

• A calendar event is added, changed, or deleted
• A new chat message is sent
• A to-do is assigned to you
• A to-do assigned to you reaches its due date

A notification never shows more detail than you're allowed to see — for example, a notification about a busy-only event will never include its title.

You can mute notification types individually, per unit — so being in three units doesn't mean choosing between silence or everything.

1. Open the unit.
2. Go to Unit Settings > Notifications.
3. Toggle off any of: Calendar, Chat, To-Dos, or Due Dates.

Muting only stops the push alert — nothing is hidden inside the app itself.

1. On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot Password.
2. Enter your email address.
3. Follow the link sent to your email to set a new password.

1. Go to Account Settings.
2. Tap Delete Account.
3. If you're the sole owner of any unit, you'll be asked to transfer ownership or delete that unit first.
4. Confirm deletion.

This removes your memberships, the calendar events you've shared, and your to-do assignments. Your past chat messages stay visible as part of each unit's history (shown as sent by "a removed member"), since removing them would make surrounding conversations unreadable for everyone else.

1. Go to Account Settings.
2. Tap Report a Concern (or equivalent).
3. Select Report a child under 13.
4. Follow the prompts.

This is a separate, compliance-focused process from simply removing a member from a unit.

Your family's data is stored in Australia. No family content — event titles, chat messages, to-do or shopping items, or member names — is ever shared with any advertising system.

• No photo, file, or document uploads anywhere in the app (including chat photos or a unit picture)
• No two-way calendar sync — Jia reads from Apple/Google/Outlook but never writes back to them
• No roles beyond owner and member — no co-owners or parental controls
• No sharing a unit's calendar outside the unit, other than the busy-only subscription feed
• No private/direct messages — one group chat per unit only
• No voice or video calling
• No assigning a to-do to more than one person
• No price tracking or shopping-list totals
• No week view at the moment
• iPhone only for now — Android and web/desktop versions are not yet available
